Thermal Belt Rail Trail

wonderful paved trail

May, 2024 by janek218

Started this trail at the Forest Hunt Elementary school parking area. Rode the ā€œalmost 30 ā€œ miles of this trail. It was amazing. Itā€™s flat and wide. The trails travels thru woods and tiny quaint towns. There are places to stop and grab a bite to eat. We had pizza and fried pickles at FLY BOY. It was not crowded on this Friday afternoon. Saw lots of squirrels. Highly recommend this trail. We had e bikes but it would be very easy to have a pedal bike due to flatness and no hills. The bike path very well maintained.

Ride my e-bike on Foote trail. It was small gravel. Good quick ride. Walked my bike on asphalt trail because of lots of walkers but it wasnā€™t a long walk. Will go back not far from my house.

Really cool ride through downtown Hickory. You can ride from 1 bike shop to another but you have to cross a busy road to do it.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway

Great Trail!

Except for a little roll on the southern most end, the southern 10 miles are flat, wide and smooth with several rest stops and no, repeat *no* street crossings. A very good trail.

Enjoyed the entire trail on Aprils Fool Day. It is a nice wide trail from beginning to end. There are some road crossings but all are well marked. We saw walkers and cyclist on this overcast spring day. Impressive maps at the parking lots.

Wide, long ascents and descents and varied scenery. We wisded that we had stopped at Fly Boy Pizza and Fly Girl Brewing at Mile 3.5. Super friendly bike store called Grumpyā€™s around mile 6 across the street from the trail.

Shelby Rail-Trail

Nice trail love the bridge.

My only complaint is the bridge has been locked for months with what seems like no real reason at this point.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway

trail information not current.

Going south, the map stops at Rt 485, however the trail does continues south into Pineville and beyond. There are areas further north that utilize city streets in upscale neighborhoods due to construction as part of hospital construction project. The trail is terrific just need to update the map.

Great trail but could get confusing when it connects to other trails. Overall great experience and environment!
