Stevens Creek Bikeway Description

The Stevens Creek Bikeway follows a scenic stream for 4 miles through neighborhoods and woodlands, connecting two parks (one at each end of the trail) on the western side of Decatur in central Illinois. The pathway is relatively flat and trail-goers are likely to spot deer or other wildlife along the way.

Restrooms, drinking water and abundant parking are all available along the southern trail section that runs through Fairview Park. At its end point there, the trail connects directly to the Fairview Park Trail, which in turn connects to the Conservation District Trail, and it to the Kiwannis Park/West Side Trail.

Future plans call for one day extending the trail north to Forsyth's trail system.

Parking and Trail Access

From North Fairview Avenue (State Route 48) in Decatur, turn west on West Eldorado Street and proceed to enter Fairview Park one block ahead. Just past the portal, turn right and follow the main park drive about 0.6 miles to the stop sign at the trail crossing by the flower garden. Just ahead, turn right and enter the west section of the park through the stone gateposts. Proceed along the park drive and park at any one of the three lots there.

Stevens Creek Bikeway Reviews

Beautiful trail and setting

This is a beautiful trail! It meanders nearly 6 miles with many gentle curves and hills and very few straightaways. It is almost entirely wooded and runs along the lovely creek most of the way. There are a number of bridges to go over and under. The track itself is clean and in great condition. There are 3-4 manhole covers go watch out for. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Beautiful trail

Love this trail. We frequently drive over from Springfield to ride this trail. The hills and curves through the woods and along side the creek make it so much more interesting than a flat, rail trail. And hooking up in Fairview Park gives you several options for more riding and having a picnic lunch. And all of the trails beginning in Fairview Park are interesting and still in pretty good shape.

Great ride!

We love this trail. It's best to start at Greendale and head south if you plan to go all the way to Rocksprings. If you start in Fairview park you have to make two loops to get it all in. But a nice shorter ride allows you to start in Fairview and go either north (which is the easier of the two) or south which is a little harder with the hills and long steep grades. You can also start in the front half of Fairview Park and stay on the trails inside the park. Which ever you do, you'll have a nice ride.

Superb Trail!

The best we've found yet! Best to start from Fairview Park, where there are restrooms and ample parking. A great thing about the Fairview Park trailhead: It connects directly with VARIOUS OTHER TRAILS that are also similar and very nice. There's a great map on the web site of the Decatur Park District. Bottom of this page: http://www.decatur-parks.org/parks-and-trails/trail-ways/ You can combine the Fairview Park and Conservation District trails for 4 miles. Or the Kiwannis Park, West Side, and Lincoln Park Drive trails for a little over 4 miles. You can park in one place and take these trail separately or all together. I live in Decatur. My wife and I ride a TerraTrike tandem here two or three times a week.
