Thermal Belt Rail Trail

Fantastic Trail

June, 2024 by fkelly17

Rode this trail on June 7th, 2024 and it was an awesome ride. We started at the northern trailhead and rode 10 miles south and back. Super wide and very smooth asphalt the whole way. There were some downed trees from a Thunderstorm the night before blocking part of the trail on the way out but the cleanup crew had reopened it on our way back. So, very well maintained trail. Highly recommend.

Two seriously dangerous intersections on trail

June, 2024 by jkendall828

This trail is a good beginning to a great trail for the city of Asheville. I suggest you upgrade all intersections with cars, using the SC Swamp Rabbit Trail as an example. Bright green crosswalks, all traffic stops when bikes or walkers need to cross busy roads. Amboy Rd across from Citgo is very dangerous. Please address. Amboy Rd, Lyman St, Meadow Rd needs immediate attention!

Thermal Belt Rail Trail

wonderful paved trail

Started this trail at the Forest Hunt Elementary school parking area. Rode the “almost 30 “ miles of this trail. It was amazing. It’s flat and wide. The trails travels thru woods and tiny quaint towns. There are places to stop and grab a bite to eat. We had pizza and fried pickles at FLY BOY. It was not crowded on this Friday afternoon. Saw lots of squirrels. Highly recommend this trail. We had e bikes but it would be very easy to have a pedal bike due to flatness and no hills. The bike path very well maintained.

Enjoyed the entire trail on Aprils Fool Day. It is a nice wide trail from beginning to end. There are some road crossings but all are well marked. We saw walkers and cyclist on this overcast spring day. Impressive maps at the parking lots.

Wide, long ascents and descents and varied scenery. We wisded that we had stopped at Fly Boy Pizza and Fly Girl Brewing at Mile 3.5. Super friendly bike store called Grumpy’s around mile 6 across the street from the trail.

You can do just about anything on this trail and it’s a nice length. Love this trail for walking and biking.

Really enjoyed riding here. Wish the one big road crossing wasn't as daunting but overall a great trail with several parks to visit! Will def come back
