The Steel Valley Trail follows the shores of the Monongahela River. The planned 19-mile trail will travel through historic battlefields and former steel mill sites in Homestead, Braddock, Duquesne, McKeesport, Glassport and Clairton. Massive industrial furnaces from the Homestead Steel Works remain standing along with smaller artifacts such as a ladle car. These industrial artifacts and interpretive signage add quite a bit of interest to both the trail and the retail area called "The Waterfront". The district is now a modern retail center with offices, restaurants and entertainment that has been rebuilt to reflect early 20th century charm and its industrial past. The Steel Valley Trail is a crucial link in the 335-mile Pittsburgh to Washington, DC corridor that is made up of the Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal Towpath. Currently a total of 9.8-miles of the Steel Valley Trail (including some on-road sections) are completed but more are being added almost every month. Following the waterfront the trail continues to the refurbished Hot Metal Bridge which provides a connection to the Eliza Furnace Trail section of the Three Rivers Trail System. This section of the Great Allegheny Passage has been one of the most difficult to be completed due to the tremendous amount of development surrounding the rout into downtown Pittsburgh. The all-volunteer Steel Valley Trail Council is to be highly commended for their endurance in pursuing the completion of this section of trail. Not much of a trail

I live in clairton and ride bike frequently. All this trail consists of is a few signs that direct bikes to less traveled roads. I just stay on the main roads anyways they are smoother.
This is nice because it links up with the Youghiogheny River Trail. Eventualy it will connect the montor trail to the yough trail.
