Description:
From www.klickitat-trail.org: The Klickitat Trail is a nearly level 31-mile rail corridor extending from Lyle, Washington, to the Goldendale Plateau. It follows 11 miles of the nationally designated Wild & Scenic Klickitat River and then winds its way up through Swale Canyon. The Klickitat Trail Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the Klickitat Rail-to-Trail as a unique recreational asset and legacy for our community. The U.S. Forest Service is currently developing a plan for possible management and development of the trail in partnership with the Klickitat Trail Conservancy and Washington State Parks. In January 2003, Washington State Parks Commission voted to retain title of the railbanked property. At the present time, the trail officially has the same designation as a state park that is closed for the season, meaning that individuals are free to use it at any time, but the full range of services available during the open" season are not yet available. The trail offers spectacular river and canyon views throughout its length. The beautiful carved gorges of the Klickitat and Swale Canyons, with their rolling oak and pine forested hillsides, host spectacular wildflower displays and provide top notch birding opportunities. These are just a few of the unique attributes that make this trail truly a gem of the Columbia Gorge and Pacific Northwest.

Warwick to Lyle
By BD on May 04, 2004
"This 29.5 mile trail begins either at Lyle or get a shuttle east to Warwick and ride downgrade the entire way. Be advised this is a rough trail with large rocks, some rock fall portages and swampy spots. You'll want a bike with shocks or soft tires.

In my opinion, the ride through Swale Canyon is the most interesting, ending a couple miles east of the missing trestle at Wahkiacus. A short detour west via the highway brings you through Klickitat to regain the trail. Be advised that ticks are out and there are woody thorns growing in places on the trail that will give you flats! We all had a bunch. Bring extra patches or get liners and slime for your tires and tubes.

The last 10 miles of trail after (west of) Klickitat follows the river into Lyle. If you've had enough flats by now, Pitt is your last chance to cross the bridge and ride the pavement back to town. Bring plenty of water! "
