In 1815, Thomas Hilleary opened Black Rock Mill along the banks of Great Seneca Creek in Montgomery County, Maryland. Grain farmers brought their harvests to the mill to be ground, and then sent to ports for export worldwide. Just over 100 years later, a flood severely damaged the structure and forced the mill to close. Later, the land became a part of Seneca Creek State Park. While the mill is still standing today, very little remains of the original structure as pieces have been rebuilt over time.
