Arabia Mountain Trail
Getting better

By Jeff in 10/30/2007 4:00:14 PM |

I rode the Arabia Mountain Trail for the first time in almost a year. I found that they have added a couple of miles and from Stonecrest Mall to Panola is completed for a distance of about 12 miles. It's not a typical flat rail trail and the 24 miles round trip are a great workout for your legs.

LeTort Spring Run Nature Trail
Nice!

By Jeff in 10/30/2007 4:00:14 PM |

This is a nice little trail that starts out behind the Lamberton Middle School in Carlisle. It becomes very quiet and scenic once you leave Carlisle with glimpses of wildlife and the LeTort. Great for short walks with the kids or dog.

Arabia Mountain Trail
Arabia Mountain Ride

"I rode the Arabia Mountain Trail this weekend. After reading some of the other comments, I would recommend that you start at Stoncrest Mall where I started. You will find plenty of parking, restrooms, etc. The trail is almost complete and ends up being over a 20 mile loop if you ride from here to the present end on a bridge over the river just a little ways from Panola Mountain. Please be prepared for some climbing. This is not a flat rail trail, but the scenery is very nice. I didn't find that the climbs were overly difficult. I didn't use any gearing except for my middle chainring on my mountain bike, but I would imagine that some people that do not ride very often may find a few places that they will have to walk up the hills. If you do, use the opportunity to take in the view. There are plenty of benches for rest stops, but there is a lack of restrooms. I hope they will be in the future plans. "

Katy Trail State Park
Excellent week

By Jeff in 10/9/2006 12:00:00 AM |

Over a period of six days my wife and I rode from Defiance to Rocheport in round trip segments. All segments that we rode were excellent. We liked the small towns and some of the great places along the way to rehydrate. We like the fact that the trailheads showed the highlights of the upcoming ride. We talked to several people that rode from B&B to B&B and that is probably what we will plan for next time.

White Pine Trail State Park
Nice Ride

By Jeff in 7/14/2006 12:00:00 AM |

"Today I was on the trail for the first time. I rode from Riverside Park in GR to Russell Road near Cedar Springs. (The end of the paved section)

This is a perfect case of going ""up north."" The trail seems to be inclined as you go north. Nothing too difficult, though, and it makes for a great ride back to GR. Trail very smooth compared to others I have been on lately. Rockford is a great resting place... nice little village square. Great scenery along both rivers, especially the Rogue.

I can't wait until they pave the rest of the trail."

Kent Trails
Thumbs Up

By Jeff in 7/12/2006 12:00:00 AM |

"I ride the Southern part of this trail frequently because I find it to be a great family ride. I park in Byron Center and ride to 44th Street and back about 11 miles... good for the kids. This portion of the trail is some farmland, some residential, some wooded.

This week I rode the entire length of the trail for the 1st time. I really enjoyed it... it has a bit of everything. It does get a bit urban going across 28th Street and Chicago Drive but once you get past the City of Grandville you are back on the trail. Plug your nose going past the wastewater plant. The portion along the Grand River is real nice and you cross the river eventually and have your choice of Millenium Park to the left of John Ball Park to the right. I first went to John Ball Park, primarily because the trail signage disappears after you cross the river. I then rode down to Millenium Park. Very nice park, however, the geese were not real excited about sharing ""their"" trail with me.

Then I headed back to Byron Center. The days ride for me a great workout at 32+- miles.

Overall, a good family trail, fairly flat. Only downside is Urban section through Grandville and in some of the wooded areas the trail is getting rough due to tree root growth under the trail, but a small price to pay for a great ride.

Thumbs up for Kent Trails!!"

Longleaf Trace
Excellent!!!

By Jeff in 11/3/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"I have ridden many, many trails and have decided that my weekend ride of the Longleaf Trace was the best by far. The facilities were excellent with rest rooms and drink machines all along the way.

There were also small towns with restaurants convenient to the trail. My only complaint was that each rest stop ended up with so much conversation with other bike riders that we got behind schedule."

Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail
Excellent ride

By Jeff in 12/4/2003 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode the Pinellas Trail on Thanksgiving 2003 and the Friday after Thanksgiving. We rode from mile 34 to Dunedin and looked around the town and then returned. We rode on Friday from Dunedin to mile 0 and then on our return to Dunedin we went to the causeway and out to the gulf. All together Friday was over 50 miles, but it was very easy riding even for my wife.

There was excellent scenery both days. My only complaint is that there are no trailheads with parking along much of the trail and as visitors to the area, we didn't know where we could legally park. "

New River Trail State Park
Galax to Fries

By Jeff in 4/28/2003 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode the NRT from Galax to Fries Junction to Fries. We stopped for lunch in Fries and retraced our ride back to Galax. It was a very nice ride of about 34 miles. It was flat and hard packed all the way. All in all, it was a nice scenic ride."

Virginia Creeper National Recreation Trail
Enjoyable Ride

By Jeff in 4/28/2003 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode the creeper on Friday and had most of the trail to ourselves. I don't know if that was because of the threat of rain or because it was a weekday. We called upon the fine folks of Adventure Damascus for a shuttle ride to Whitetop.

Whitetop to Damascus was very enjoyable and required many stops just to admire the scenery. With very little work we reached Damascus where we stopped for lunch. My wife drove back to our hotel in Abingdon while I rode the Damascus to Abingdon portion of the trail. This section was also scenic and relatively flat with a slight uphill toward the end. All in all, it was a very enjoyable ride."

Columbia Trail
Love the trail but also love the rail

By Jeff in 3/26/2003 12:00:00 AM |

This trail is awesome and though I have never gone past Califon I hope to when it opens for public use. It would be nice had this stayed an active railroad and then the town of High Bridge and the towns around it might have benefitted. But what can ya do now?

Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail (formerly North Central or Northern Central)
Newly Re-Surfaced!

By Jeff in 9/8/2002 12:00:00 AM |

"Very well maintained trail with great scenery! As of 9/8/02, the trail has been resurfaced. Today I rode from Bentley Springs to Monkton and back, and I must say, this trail is super smooth!"

Cape Cod Rail-Trail
Cape Cod Rail Trail

By Jeff in 10/30/2000 12:00:00 AM |

"I have pedaled this trail many times. Easy grades and 100% paved. Starts in Dennis (exit 9). Next is Harwich: cranberry bogs, fresh water swimming at Long Pond, nice general store. Brewster: tall pine forests, bike shop, yummy sandwiches at the Box Lunch, Nickerson State Park is a nice side trip. Orleans: large salt marsh, town center with a good bike shop, shopping, good eats and drinks (check out the Land Ho Tavern), Rock Harbor is beautiful! Eastham: Side trip to First Encounter Beach. Wellfleet: Continue on trail to town center or cross rt 6 to the National Seashore, don't miss Coast Guard Beach and Marconi Beach (beautiful and strange easy hike on the White Cedar Swamp Trail off Marconi Area parking lot. Have fun, it's a great ride"
