Beebe Spur

By WXMAN in 7/14/2012 11:46:23 PM |

This is a GREAT trail. The mid July scenery offers wonderful views of Lake Memphremagog, wet lands (where I got pictures of a swimming duck and a croaking bull frog) to pastures abundent with wild flowers,to Vermont-green forests and exquisite flower gardens planted near the trail by the homes you'll pass along your way. The trail is flat the entire length and smooth enough for walking, biking or running (I don't recommend roller skates). I saw two women jogging while easily pushing a jogging stroller with baby on board. This trail is perfect for all ages, and especially safe for parents who are looking for a place to bring young children on bicycles. Toward the north end of the trail you'll find picnic tables. A covenant place to rest and enjoy a nourishing snack. I live in Lake Worth, Florida and get to enjoy my Derby home about twice a year. I can't wait to enjoy this trail in the autumn.

The 400 State Trail
Great birding trail

By WXMAN in 10/1/2008 8:35:27 AM |

We rode this trail on Sept 23rd during a period of great weather. The trail is very flat and very well maintained. Part of the trail was and is closed due to some bridge damage caused by some recent flooding. The trail goes through the Baraboo river valley and is covered with a tree canopy about 50% of the time. There were all types of birds along the the trail. For us the highlight was a beautiful large bald eagle only 50-100 feet off the trail in an old snag. It sat there long enough for us to get numerous shots at it, with our camera of course. There are places to eat, rst areas, and water along the trail. Go ride this trail for sure, BUT call ahead for details of the short trail closure.

Tunnel Hill State Trail
Great Trail

By WXMAN in 10/1/2008 8:26:34 AM |

My wife and I were returning from a biking trip on Wisconsin Rail Trails and decided to stop in Vienna to do the Tunnel Hill Trail. I had read about the trail in the RTC magazine. The trail was beautiful and well groomed. Along the twenty miles of the trail we did, there were numerous high trestles over small streams and the stunning tunnel. I can only imagine how wonderful the trail will be during the fall foliage time. This is definitely a trail worth traveling to for a wonderful ride.

Mon River Rail Trail System: Deckers Creek Trail
Pretty trail

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"Rode this trail on Sep 28, 2005 from Morgantown to the Dave's Place at the 10 mile marker. Nice stop, built by this gentleman, on the trail with chairs, picnic tables, ice cream, cokes, and great conversation. They take your picture for their album, that they show you. The downhill ride back to Morgantown was great. "

Allegheny Highlands Trail of Maryland - Great Allegheny Passage
The best trail of our vacation

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode from Meyersdale, PA to Cumberland through the ""New"" Savage Tunnel on Sept 27, 2005. The tunnel is fantastic and the view of the valleys when you come out of it are unbelieveable. If you can ride it this fall I bet it is great. 2 miles out of Meyersdale there is a bridge out, that is tough to get around, it's steep and the last 7 miles into Cumberland is on the road. About half way is Frostburg and it is well worth the stop, BUT is a good little climb. The whole Allegheny Highlands Trail is worth doing not just this 30 mile section. Enjoy "

D & L Trail - Lehigh Gorge State Park Trail
Great trail

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"Rode the trail Sept 20, 2005 with a SAG from Pocono Whitewater Bike Tours, Linda dropping ou off. Found the trail to be very nice and smooth with good views of the gorge. We bet it is beautiful this fall. Enjoy!!!"

Mon River Rail Trail System: Mon River Trail South
Super Trail

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"Flat beautiful and well groomed. Rode this on Sept 28, 2005. Started in Morgantown. This should be a great ride for the fall colours. Enjoy"

Pine Creek Rail Trail
Great views

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"Rode the trail on Sept 21, 2005 with a SAG from Pine Creek Outfitters in Ansonia. Stayed in Wellsboro at the Sherwood Motel. What a great town with lots of places to eat, we recommend the diner and the steak house. The Sherwood Motel was reasonabel and had very nice personnel. The trail had many great views of the mountains. I highly recommend this trail and wish we had time to do more than Ansonia to Slate Run. The service station in Slate Run has great sandwiches and staff. We bet it is beautiful in the fall."

Keuka Outlet Trail
OK Trail

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

The trail was fairly scenic but trail maintenance had been neglected. We rode from Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake and back. There is only a service station with snacks in Seneca. With some good trail mx this could be a great trail.

Clarion-Little Toby Creek Trail
Nice Trail

By WXMAN in 9/30/2005 12:00:00 AM |

"Rode from Ridgeway to the 10 mile marker. Nice trail with a very smooth bed. Stopped at Love's Canoe Rental's and Sales, Mr Love is worht meeting and he also has a bike shop at his place for supplies. The trail was flat and well maintained and should be beautiful in the fall. We rode it on Sep 25, 2005 "

White River Trail
Hard to find

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

Park people were useless when we asked about this trail. The trail is not listed on anything in the park with no signs to it. We just happened to find it the morning we left and so we didn't get to ride it.

Route of the Hiawatha
Breathtaking

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"What a great trail. We came from Tennessee just to ride this trail. We could not have been more pleased. The tunnels, trestles, and views were unforgettable.

The trail is just a short drive off the interstate, and there is good parking and rest facilities. There is also a shuttle back up if you need it. We biked back up and the ride was easy.

We did the trail in August 2003. We started at the West Portal (top) and rode through the Taft Tunnel (jackets and lights are necessary for this tunnel). You can do the other eight tunnels without the jackets and lights. The Taft Tunnel was the best though. Enjoy!"

Elroy-Sparta State Trail
Best Trail Ever

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"We stayed in Kendall at a little B&B style motel, which had about eight rooms. We had a good breakfast just about right on the trail in the backyard of the B&B, which was a very comfortable, new place. I can't remember the B&B's name, though.

The trail and tunnels and little towns were just great. This was one of the first and is probably the best overall rail-trail. We rode from Sparta to Elroy by using a sag from Kendall. We rode two other trails from Sparta and enjoyed those also.

We came from Tennessee to do this trail and we'll do it again. Go ride this now!"

Central Lakes State Trail
Nice trail

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"This is a good, quiet trail with limited services available. All the towns had food and places to stay. The trail's flat -- really flat. "

George S. Mickelson Trail
Super trail

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode this trail in early September 2003. This was truly a nice trail with pretty scenery, a good riding surface, and some but not many rest stops. All the little towns on the trail had services, but there were not many towns. We stayed in Custer and got sagged to a couple of different starting points. Custer had lots of places to stay and many good eats. This trail definitely makes for a good ride."

Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail Extension
Norfolk to Neligh

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"We rode this trail in late August 2003. This is a great trail. We really enjoyed biking through the small towns. There are lots of bluebirds and bluebird houses, and there are lots of good places to eat at and to stay in Norfolk."

Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes
Brids & Biking: WOW

By WXMAN in 3/21/2004 12:00:00 AM |

"We biked all the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes except the few miles by the interstate. We stayed in Harrison at the Osprey Inn, right on the trail. This was a great B&B and it caters to cyclists.

The trail is paved, flat and beautiful. There are miles and miles of wetlands with a gazillion birds, ospreys, ducks, little birds, big birds, and lots of unkown birds (to us). The old bridge at the southwest end of the trail was not opened yet but should be by now. Ride this trail soon and often."

Roanoke Canal Trail
Terrible trail

By WXMAN in 5/5/2003 12:00:00 AM |

"My wife and I go all around the eastern USA riding lots of rail trails. This was the worst trail I've ever seen. It had virtually no signs/markers, no trail maintenance, and was closed due to flooding about half way, but no signage of that. I would NEVER recommend this trail to anyone. It should be delisted from the trail link."
