While reaching the end of the trail today in Collinsville and planning to turn around at the Nursery, I noticed a painted crosswalk and a continuation of the trail across the road. I followed newly constructed and paved trail ahead! I rode onward for about 2 miles on this new section and ended up at Best Cleaners on Rt 44. Looking like it ended there I turned around and headed back to Simsbury. Kudo's to Collinsville and Canton for extending the Trail!

Decided to try out the WL Canal Trail today on the last weekend before closing. The trail is closed the trail to protect nesting birds over the winter. This trail had very light use today and with the canal on one side and the fiver on the other provided some peaceful riding and solitude. Scenery was very nice with the contrasting waters on either side and late fall foliage adding color. The trail itself is narrower and surface is a little rougher than the Farmington Canal and rode a bit slower. Nice river views the whole way and plenty of birds and squirrels gathering food for the winter. I caught the train passing over the trestle as I rode by, not a usual sight on most trails. Glad I tried this trail, it was a nice change.

Very nice ride today although a bit cold and windy. Started from rt 20 in Grandby and continued up to the end in Westfield. Met a few other bikers and walkers out today braving the weather. The trail is nice and smooth passing by farms, streams and some residential areas. I've now completed the entire canal trail (not in one day, yet) from Yale in New Haven, CT to Westfield, MA. This section is a nice change from my usual routes in Chesire and Farmington. Looking foward to this trail finishing northward to connect with North / East Hampton, which could make for a nice long ride someday. Further dreaming would include Plainville to Farmington and Cheshire north of Cornwall Ave. Congrats to Southwick and Westfield for a job well done.

The construction is completed and trail reopened (not sure exactly when). The trail is moved closer to the subway plaza and hill is smoothed a bit. The weird detour by the glass place to the sidewalk in front of Peoples bank is still there however. I was hoping this would be fixed as it is I almost got run into by an over zealous rider yesterday. All in all it was a great ride from Cheshire to New Haven, beautiful weather leaves falling, sunlight streaming through the canopy of trees over the trail.

Started in Carmel at the new parking area off rt 6 and followed the sign to bike trail that I never found rode about a mile up hill and back. Saw a fenced off area off the road up toward a RR overpass that is not completed. Then I figured the trail must be down the other direction. Apparently this sign was put up qa little early and is misleading. Anyway after our 2.5 mile warmup we found the trail off of Tilly Foster Rd.
The new trail is beautiful as it cosses the resevoir and continues upwards thru the countryside. the hills are a little steep but make for a speedy return trip to cool off. I followed the trao all the way to the North Conway trail, but also got a little lost near the lake when I missed a crossing near a busy intersection.
It was a nice detour near the lake and a small marina. Also a bike shop where I browsed and bought cold drinks. Overall an enjoyable ride that had many ups and downs compared to my local rail ride. I will probably return again as the leaves change to enjoy the wondeful scenery.
