The Almanor Railroad forms an important new link in northeastern California's network of trails near Lake Almanor. The track materials are currently being salvaged by Iron Horse Preservation Society and then the base will be compacted for the trail surface. Collins Pine, who owns the corridor, has railbanked the corridor and is planning to make it available to the public for recreational use. Eventually trail advocates in the area would like to connect this trail to the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail and the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail. The railroad was primarily used to haul lumber products and timber from the mill in Chester.
