El Cajon Trail Description

Yorba Linda's El Cajon Trail courses through the city on a former irrigation canal that was abandoned and filled in after a flood made it impractical to use. Paved with a parallel equestrian and jogging path for its entire length (with the exception of a short portion that lacks the adjacent treadway at the far eastern end), the trail serves a variety of users and connects visitors and residents to a number of amenities in the Orange County city.

Highlights along the route include the Phillip S. Paxton Equestrian Center, where lucky trail users might catch a glimpse of a competitive horse show, and the Yorba Linda Community Center near Hurless Barton Park. Uniquely, the trail also passes behind the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, which incorporates the 37th President's birthplace and childhood home, a museum featuring numerous artifacts related to his life and presidency, and even Nixon's presidential helicopter, as well as his final resting place.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the El Cajon Trail is available at Hurless Barton Park (4579 Casa Loma Avenue) in Yorba Linda. From the parking lot, travel north on the sidewalk a short distance along Casa Loma Avenue to reach the trail.

El Cajon Trail Reviews

short but scenic

My family and I are beginners and were looking for a safe and easier to ride trail to explore. This was perfect. We started at the park and went East. Though it wasn't very long, the tunnel, helicopter, and horses made it an adventure.

family-friendly trail

Perfect trail to bring the kiddos to ride or walk.

Go-to Trail

Nice wide trail with asphalt and gravel I run almost every Saturday morning. Easy access and parking. Sometimes busy with families, dogs, bikes and horses, but the trail is so wide there is always room. I usually carry my own water so adding restrooms would make this a 5-star trail!

Yorba Linda Recreational Trail

A well utilized Trail with excellent asphalt or concrete surface as it winds through upscale horse country and interesting back yards. Slow down or stop near President Nixon’s Helicopter display and you may hear tour guide natter. A short ride east on Yorba Linda Ave takes you to food & drink. Plenty of parking at Hurless Park with water fountain and restrooms. 10 Dec 09 Noel Keller
