Berlin Lake Trail Description

The Berlin Lake Trail lies mid-way between Cleveland and Pittsburgh in Deerfield Township of Portage County. The 2-mile crushed limestone rail-trail crosses Berlin Lake, traveling through wooded areas with lake views. Fishing is not permitted from the bridge, but several spur trails lead from the Berlin Lake Trail to the shoreline for that purpose.

Parking and Trail Access

On the Berlin Lake Trail's northern end, parking is available off US 224, 1.5 miles east of Deerfield Circle. Parking can also be found at the south entrance off Kirkbride Road.

Berlin Lake Trail Reviews

loved it!!

Really nice little trail! Nice little workout! Beautiful views, friendly walkers. Can’t wait to come back.

We are really enjoyed our bike ride. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because on the offshoot paths where the fishing spots are, there's a lot of broken glass.

A Nice Local Recreational Trail

This is a nice short rail trail that services this community as another recreational opportunity. I would not call this a destination trail by any means. The surface is crushed limestone except for the concrete surface on the bridge that crosses over a passage in the lake. Most of the time you are surrounded by water on both your left and your right. Riding or walking this trail at dawn or twilight might give you better chances to encounter wildlife. There always seems to be people out on the lake boating or fishing when the weather is good. I did not encounter anyone else on the trail today, but previously I have shared the trail with runners and dog walkers.

Short Scenic Trail

On April 28, 2017 I rode Berlin Lake Trail in Deerfield Township which is WSW of Youngstown, Ohio. This is a short little rail trail that is recreational in use. There were a lot of walkers using the trail around 9 a.m. The trail is almost completely surrounded by water. If you got here early enough you'd probably see some spectacular sunrises. This is a trail you can knock out pretty quickly as a round trip is only 4.5 miles.

Nice Little Gem Tucked Along the Lake

The trail is somewhat secluded, so I recommend traversing with a buddy, or come prepared. The trail is nicely managed, and beautiful scenery; especially the view from the walking bridge which crosses the Berlin Lake. I have not run into any problems when I have been out there, and everyone I have passed have been very friendly and respectful, and it seems everyone has been following the dog restraint laws very nicely. less than 5 mile trek from one end and back which makes for a great place to get a short run in. Its seems like it caters well to bikers, walkers, fisherman, runners, and it is especially nice to see the groups of senior citizens on their bikes, or even just taking a leisurely stroll with a partner or friend.
