Print Friendly MapThe San Fernando Road Bike Path parallels its namesake road and a shared active Metrolink commuter rail and Union Pacific freight rail line from Los Angeles' Sylmar neighborhood to its Pacoima neighborhood. Along the way, the trail cuts clear through the city of San Fernando, the first organized community in the San Fernando Valley, where it is signed as the Mission City Trail.
The rail-with-trail connects residential neighborhoods to commercial uses along San Fernando Road, as well as the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station. The entire bikeway is fully landscaped and lit, with safety fencing separating the trail from the busy train tracks.
In the future, the trail will be extended southeast even farther to Burbank, providing access to Bob Hope Airport and three additional Metrolink stations: Sun Valley, Downtown Burbank and currently under-construction Bob Hope Airport-Hollywood Way.
Parking for the San Fernando Road Bike Path is available at the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station. From Interstate 5, take the San Fernando Mission Boulevard exit and continue northeast to Laurel Canyon Road. Turn left (north) on Laurel Canyon Road, and turn right on Hubbard Street. At Frank Modugno Drive, turn left. The free parking lot is on the left.
There aren’t crosswalks for all of the road crossings so you have to go to the nearest intersection instead. Nice, flat trail that ends in a park and was an easy ride for the kids. Buildings near by have all kinds of industrial smells, so it’s not the nicest bike trail in the world, but it’s good for the area.
This is a great path to ride your bike fairly easy. my kids have done it from start to finish
