Print Friendly MapThe developing South Shore Trail will one day stretch 14 miles between Annapolis and Odenton. It's also part of the larger East Coast Greenway, a widespread network connecting trails from Maine to Florida.
The rail-trail’s first phase is complete. The paved trail, running between Millersville Rd. and Waterbury Rd. for 1.6 miles, offers a pleasant, tree-lined corridor in this rural community. Farther north, in Odenton, the trail is anticipated to connect to the WB&A Trail in the future.
Farther east, on the outskirts of Annapolis, another short section (0.8 miles long) is open between Annapolis Plaza and Anne Arundel Medical Center.
There is parking available at the trailhead on the west end located on Board of Education property (Millersville Road and Rt 3). On the Waterbury Road trailhead has a total of 3 spaces, including one accessible spot. Mid-trail, parking is available at Millersville Elementary School (1601 Millersville Rd.) during non-school hours but there is no direct access to the trail.
Paved trail, mostly sun, houses back up to the trail. Along some power lines. Nice wildflowers. Saw a mama dear and twin fawns. Trail crosses several roads. Several runners and walkers. 1681 Millersville Rd, Millersville, MD 21108
I went this weekend to meet up with some friends to walk this trail. None of us had never been on this trail before. The website said parking was available at Millersville Elementary so we decided to meet there. There is no access to the trail from the school. We ended up going further down Millersville road to the trailhead. The parking lot was tiny -- three spaces -- two regular and one handicap. It is in the middle of nowhere and you need to back out onto the street to exit the parking lot. There is no way to turn around so you can see oncoming traffic. Better to start at the end by Millersville Rd and Rt 3. The parking lot is much bigger! Other than that the trail was lovely and clean. It was mostly level -- only one incline. I would walk this again but only from the Rt 3 end.
This section is complete. Paved and spacious. Not much elevation but good for a jog with a stroller from one end to the other and back. What’s not to love? Parking ok Crownsville is limited (two larking spots, 3 including a handicap spot) but the Rt3 lot near end of Millersville Rd has plenty of parking.
Real construction (paving) is happening on the Phase 1 segment from (almost) MD-3 to (almost) I-97. It looks like this section will be fairly nice, though short. The road connection west to Odenton and the WB&A Trail via MD-175 has a decent shoulder. The connection southeast to Annapolis also has a shoulder, but more traffic. From Bestgate Road to downtown Annapolis the route is tricky. The fully completed trail, whenever that happens, should be great. (Expectation of *** for Phase 1).
Well I found the trail and the other reviewer is correct. It's not a finished Trail it's just a mowed grass area running a long telephone poles
this trail is not constructed yet. it is phase 1 of south shore trail and is approximately 2 miles not the .6 reported.
