Bannerman Trail Description

The Bannerman Trail is open but largely unimproved between the communities of Redgranite and Neshkoro on a former Chicago and North Western Railway corridor. The dirt, grass and sand surface might make cycling difficult; road bikes are not recommended.

The trail, which winds through a mixed rural environment of farmland and woodlands, is home to a popular local trail run every year.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Bannerman Trail can be found at its western end on State Route 73 (north of Neshkoro).

Bannerman Trail Reviews

great walking trail

I access the trail at the highway 73 opening. It is beautiful & quiet. My dogs love it.

I went here today. When I searched the directions on Google, it said that it was permanently closed. It is. There's a house where the trail should be.

great mountain bike trail

Great trail for specific riders. This isn’t a trail for road bikes or early riders. My six year old son struggled but I think he will be the appropriate age and skill level next year. So great trail for off road bikers. I recommend!

Beautiful but rough.

I knew going into the trail, it would give me some issues with my mountain bike but that’s biking. If you’re thinking of making time on this trail, I would advise you to take your time, get off your bike and just look around. There is plenty of beauty and wildlife. I support the trail, hoping that one day soon, someone, the communities or the State of Wisconsin could help improve this trail just think what it could do to the communities in the area, would make a good investment. investment

beautiful trail

We started the trail in Red Granite, walked a few miles, and were pleasantly surprised by how wide and well-maintained it was. We enjoyed looking at the geese in the large pond to the east and all of the strewn-about quarry rocks. This is a pleasant walking trail but not good for bikes. There were a few trees down across the trail but we were on it in March. We also started the trail from the Neshkoro side and were even more impressed by how removed from people it was and how pretty the trees were that grew alongside the trail and canopied over the top.

Marketable, but needs a lot of attention

The trail's scenery has a few redeeming qualities using Springdale as an example. Among the tractor treads and the multiple sink holes and the loose sand, this trail is not suitable for bicycles until Washara County has developed a budget to improve this trail.

Difficult for biking

"This trail starts or ends off of Hwy 73 South of Hwy 21. It is closer to Neshkoro than Wautoma.

We rode down about a quarter mile and found the trail's surface to be all sand rather than compact dirt. Some of the trail was also surfaced with grass; regardless, we found the trail's surface made for difficult biking."
