Print Friendly MapThe Coal Creek Trail provides an easy paved hike or ride for 3.5 miles along its namesake waterway. The trail begins at Bicentennial Park, a grassy picnic area, and passes Rotary Centennial Veterans Park, a memorial to honor the city's veterans. Trail-goers will enjoy scenic views as the path continues through East Canyon Park, a popular place to picnic and play, to the mouth of Cedar Canyon.
Exit Interstate 15 east on W. 200 N. (State Route 56), and take it to its end. Turn left and you will quickly see the entrance to Cedar Canyon Fields at Veterans Park on your right. This provides parking and access to the middle of the Coal Creek Trail.
Trail extended further up the canyon.
Location: Cedar City, UT
Parking: Large parking area at Veteran’s Park Baseball Fields, mid-point of trail.
Trail Condition: Wide pavement in good condition.
Signage: Trail is well signed with the exception of the area of Canyon Park, East Side. Trail loops over itself and crosses the creek, a sign is needed here.
Comments: This is a nice trail across the northern part of Cedar City and into Cedar Canyon along Coal Creek. Veteran’s Park is very nice and the ride up into Cedar Canyon is pleasant. There is a historical site along the trail at the mouth of the canyon. Another trail spurs off the trail leading to the south of town at the south end of Ann J Gardner Canyon Park, if wanting a little longer ride.
This is a great little trail. I am lucky enough to live close so I walk almost daily. Beautiful no matter what season. Great views of sunrises and sunsets. Not usually too crowded. Don't expect to go fishing or boating at the East Canyon Park but you can soak your feet in the creek that runs through it year round.
A most enjoyable Trail, recommended to me by a friend., when he heard I was traveling through Cedar City. It was very active with walkers & cyclist this Saturday 25 Sep 10. As with all of Utah Mountain Scenery, its ever changing with the angle of sun shine during the day, so you may enjoy it at different times. Trail Surface is in great condition. Several short 5% grades, rising to 6,0512 feet. Sharp turns to cross under Hwy 56. Easy access and Parking at the Park. Take time to view the Memorials by the Park. Noel Keller 26 Jan 11
