Wolf Creek Greenway Description

The Wolf Creek Greenway follows its namesake waterway for two miles through Vinton on the outskirts of Roanoke in western Virginia. Its surface is mostly cinder and gravel with a few short asphalt sections. It's a level pathway with only about 100 feet of elevation gain as you approach the Blue Ridge Parkway. Views are of open park fields, woods, and farm pastures where you might see horses, donkeys and sheep.

Parking and Trail Access

Multiple parking locations are available along the length of the trail. There is a parking lot at the south end of the trail off Hardy Road/State Route 634 about 1.5 mile east of downtown Vinton. A large parking lot is also available in Goode Park off E. Washington Avenue/SR 24 near the middle of the trail.

Wolf Creek Greenway Reviews

awesome place for exercise

I saw people strolling, jogging, biking.. families.. not over crowded. Beautiful place! Shaded in a lot of areas so not too hot!

Lovely Walk

I walk this trail often - it's very pretty, and the scenery varies, but most of it runs alongside Wolf Creek. It goes through sylvan areas, past some homes, crosses a couple of residential streets, passes a farm with animals grazing; the variation makes this fun. It's mostly level. Tall walkers will have to stoop in the tunnel that runs under a major roadway, though!

I rode this trail from the blue ridge park way down into Vinton. It was an easy ride of gentle downhill and flat sections. Trail condition was excellent with several sections having fresh gravel. The tunnel under Mountain View road is very picturesque.

Where the trail runs under Washington Ave was my only complaint. The tunnel was full of sand and head heights were extremely limited. I had to get off my bike and stoop down to not hit my head.
