Description
Nearly 2 miles of the Albany County Rail Trail (which is sometimes also referred to as the Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail) is open between Veteran's Memorial Park on Delaware Avenue in Delmar and Fireman's Park near New Scotland Road in Slingerlands. As of August 2011, only pedestrians are permitted to use the trail; however, additional upgrades will eventually allow bicycles. All but 1.9 miles of the trail is closed because extensive bridge repairs and other safety improvements are needed.
The rail-trail will eventually run for 9 miles along the old Delaware & Hudson (D&H) Railroad, later the Canadian Pacific Railway, which was abandoned in 2003. The Albany County Rail Trail will link the Port of Albany and Voorheesville and will be multi-use when complete.
