Brian Brown Memorial Greenway Description

The Brian Brown Memorial Greenway—named for a local trail advocate whose untimely death while biking on a busy road emphasized the need for trails in the area—runs for 1.66-miles on the western side of Martin. The trail courses primarily through farmland owned by the University of Tennessee at Martin, with the eastern stretch occupying a former railroad corridor.

The paved trail extends eastward on the out-of-service rail line to downtown Martin.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Brian Brown Memorial Greenway is available at the north end of the trail and midway along the route. The larger trailhead is located at the intersection of University Street/State Route 431 and Skyhawk Parkway/SR 43. A smaller parking lot can be found at the northern end of Carter Street.

A short, sturdy trail that goes through a small wood

The westernmost section of the trail is exposed to traffic on Skyhawk Parkway unless mature corn is in the crop field. The bridge is nice, though the creek is often a trickle. The trail is now 1.66 miles and connects McDonald's to the downtown farmer's market. The last half mile is somewhat exposed as well with houses and businesses on both sides though only one road crossing. Yet this road crossing across Lindell Street is very dangerous with Blake's Restaurant blocking vision of and from southbound traffic. There is a huge bike sculpture to indicate a pedestrian crossing, but you will still have to wait a while at busy times of the day.
