Brighton East Rail Trail Description

The Brighton East Rail Trail was Fayette County's first, opening in 2007. The original 1-mile trail through recent residential development between Bryant Road and Pleasant Ridge Park proved overwhelmingly popular with locals, and another 1-mile stretch of trail was completed in 2013. The newer portion of trail continues east from Pleasant Ridge Park through the tree-lined corridor to Walnut Grove Lane. Completion of this section was made possible by a local landowner’s generous donation of a wide easement.

The most recent extension takes it west to Liberty Rd., where it meets the Liberty Park Trail via a pedestrian/cyclist bridge over the busy roadway, completed in 2021.

Eventually, city officials hope to extend the Brighton East Rail Trail east to the Fayette–Clark county line.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Brighton East Rail Trail is available at Pleasant Ridge Park (1350 Pleasant Ridge Drive).

Brighton East Rail Trail Reviews

I haven't ridden my bike in 4 years! I looked like I had never been on a bike in my life. ¿ It is a great trail, no dogs chasing you and lots of houses in case you have a heart attack! Seriously, I give it ¿¿¿¿¿

Short trail that gives access to the surrounding neighborhoods. Connects to The Liberty Trail at the Man O War end & Walnut Grove Road at the other. Walnut Grove offers access to some nice country road riding

Great for kids

Flat grade, wide path, and shade. Wonderful park about midway with restroom facilities. Amazing overpass to MOW. Exits to restaurants and ice-cream.

Perfect for families.

Great clean trail, easy to ride bikes. Paths wide and scenic.

Good for walks or short runs

This is a clean, well maintained and safe trail. There is a lot of shade to keep cool. It's very frequented, but not crowded. I can't wait until they extend it further.

Beautiful trail, Too short

This is a beautiful, well-maintained trail. The total length is approximately 2 miles so it is a little bit short for serious cycling. It is excellent for the not so serious cyclists and children. There is lots of tree cover, which provides a cool place to walk or ride on hot sunny day. The trail is often crowded with people walking, running, biking and even using non-motorized scooters. Most everyone is aware of the various trail users travelling at different speeds and are respectful and friendly. Excellent place for locals to get a little exercise.

great for beginners

This is a great trail for beginners. It's short, and if you feel adventurous, you can ride around surrounding subdivisions and down quiet side streets, which adds to your mileage. The surrounding areas are very nice, and not too much traffic on the roads, so it's a good way to practice without freaking out.
