Trail Map

Description:
The cliffs which dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for thirty miles in Calvert County were formed over 15 million years ago when all of southern Maryland was covered by a warm, shallow sea. Over 600 species of fossils have been identified from these cliffs, with the teeth of various species of shark as the most abundant fossils.

Along with the interesting cliffs, the park offers thirteen miles of marked foot trails that are open to the public (bicycles are restricted to the service road), picnic areas, playground equipment, fishing and many interpretative programs.

Horses are not allowed on the Red Trail. Bicycles are only permitted on the park's main service road. Pets are not allowed in the park.

These trails are not "rail-trails."

Calvert Cliffs State Park

There is more then one trail in this park. All trails can either make loops on each other, or they all end up at the cliffs. The red trail is the easiest at 1.8 miles to the beach, and is fairly flat. No bikes allowed on the Red trail. Parking at the state park is $5, or you can park in the hunting area near Camp Kanoy(sp?) Rd. The hunting area is free parking, and the Orange trail starts there. A great little walk in the woods in the winter, and the bugs will eat you alive in the Summer.
