Print Friendly MapCompleted in late 2015, the Converse Junction Trail provides 2 miles of smooth asphalt along a former Penn Central railroad line, linking the small Indiana communities of Converse and Mier. The trail starts at the western border of Grant County and continues east through a largely flat and tree-lined corridor, offering local residents a great recreational opportunity.
The nearby Town of Sweetser is currently working on extending the Sweetser Switch Trail, estimated to be complete by late 2016, which would connect with the eastern end of the Converse Junction Trail and provide trail users with the opportunity to extend their journey even further along Indiana's longest rail-trail, the Cardinal Greenway. Local officials also one day hope to extend the Converse Junction Trail to the west to connect with the Nickel Plate Trail.
There is no dedicated trail parking at this time; trail users should follow any posted parking signs and warnings.
To reach the western end of the trail in Converse, take I-69 and take exit 264 to head west on State Route 18 towards Marion. Continue on SR 18 through Marion and Sweetser, and stay left to continue onto SR 19/E Marion Street into Converse. Take a right onto County Road 1000 W and continue north; the trailhead will be on the right just past E 1st Street.
Great trail
Trail is connected to the Sweetser Switch trail. Very smooth and well maintained. A jewel for Grant county. Mostly flat with a few short inclines at old railroad bridges that have been removed.
Very nice 2 mile paved trail with parking at trailhead. Ride into Converse a few blocks for ice cream at the Big Dipper! Trail connects to the Sweetser Switch trail and then on to Cardinal Greenway for a nice 15 mile trip.
