Covington Circle Trail Description

Covington Circle Trail provides a partial loop around Covington in northwestern Indiana, offering views of farmland, wetlands, and small wooded creeks. Future plans call for completing the circle around the community for a total of six miles.

A highlight of the rail-trail is a distinctive historical bridge that was donated by the Fountain County Commissioners. The Fountain County Bridge No. 63, built in 1910, spans the two branches of Mallory Branch Creek.

The route also connects several of the city’s buildings and complexes, such as the Covington School Athletic Complex, Covington Citizen Center, and the USDA service center.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the Covington Circle Park.

There are also 2 parking areas on the northern portion of the trail, featuring additional park benches and bike racks.

Covington Circle Trail Reviews

Great Biking Trail

Wife and I started at the park and cycled down to the end (just south west of downtown), and made our way back. There was a lot of elevation on the return trip for sure, but we’ll worth it. Despite asphalt streaks popping up along the majority of the trail, it is still a solid bike trail to hit in the area. They need to finish the trail to make it a full circle which should make it around six miles in length. It’s a great trail that meanders through some great scenery.

Some hills; only 3/4 completed

Some hills & bumps in the trail. Be prepared to turn around & go back or ride up a short steep hill on 3rd St. Turn right on Union, then left on 5th which will take you back to the park.

some hills well maintained

We started off on the south side. I recommend this because the trail has slight up hill run through out the length, until you get back into town. There is a hill down and up just before the High school and level off after you get into the park. In reverse it is a nice slight downhill run once you get about 2 miles into the ride. very friendly people along the way.

Awesome trail by brand new park

Started off on this trail at the Covington city park which has brand new playgrounds, splash park, and restrooms. You could easily let kids play here for a couple hrs. The trail is paved and smooth. It’s almost a complete loop around town. Just a short jaunt down quiet neighborhoods will complete the loop. You won’t be disappointed with the this trail.

Three Sides of Loop Complete

As of writing this the north, east, and south sides of the loop are complete. There is new asphalt linking Pearl St and 136 on the east side. I skated a complete loop by going up 3rd St from the SW trailhead, turning right onto Union St, and turning left onto 5th St to get back to the park. The roads are pretty rough for skating unless you have big wheels.

The trail itself is pretty nice. The asphalt section is very nice and smooth, but the majority of the trail is a little rough with lots of raised cracks in the pavement that aren't marked. If you take the loop clockwise you get to enjoy a long downhill on the southern part of the loop though, which is fun.

Nice little trail though the country

Nice little trail through the country. Lots of wildlife to be seen. Good trail to begin with. Just enough hills to make it a bit of a challenge for beginners.

Great for Boarding

Me and my friends usually long board this trail at least 3 times a week in the summer. Its a great trail with plenty of interesting sights
