Cross Volusia Trail Description

The Cross Volusia Trail will one day link the east and west sides of Volusia County, stretching 20 miles from Lake Beresford to the coastal city of New Smyrna Beach. Currently, it runs through the heart of DeLand in four discrete segments, offering more than 5 miles of paved pathway.

The northernmost segment parallels Michigan Avenue east along the Stetson University campus, Florida's oldest private college. At N. Amelia Avenue, it takes a turn south and ends shortly thereafter next to the Volusia County Courthouse off E. New York Avenue.

Further south, you can pick up the trail at the southeast corner of Earl Brown Park. The park has a small duck pond and offers picnic areas, restrooms, a skatepark and playground. The trail travels south through urban and commercial areas until it reaches E. Taylor Road, where it turns east and becomes more scenic and wooded.

The next segment follows Orange Camp Road for its entire length through upscale neighborhoods, ending just north of Victoria Medical Park, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. Across from the building, you can find a few places to eat and shop at the Victoria Park Village Center.

The southernmost segment begins at the northwest corner of Blake Park, just south of Lake Helen. On its way east, the trail passes Lake Harlan and ends at S. Prevatt Avenue.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found on the Stetson University campus, at Earl Brown Park (750 South Alabama Avenue, DeLand) and at Blake Park (493 S. Lakeview Drive, Lake Helen).

Cross Volusia Trail Reviews

Is This "Lake Beresford Trail?"

Hopefully I"m reviewing the correct trail. Assuming this is what I think it is... I didn't do the entire thing because there came a point I needed $4 to continue (so bring cash). The pavement was excellent, but may be too wavy for some inline skaters. Hopefully I have another chance to do the full trail. I thoroughly enjoyed the portion I skated.

fragmented

I rode this fragmented trail and the "spring to spring" trail in DeLand recently. There is neither continuity nor signs. I fortunately met a local guy (Carl) who rode with me to the DeLeon springs area which was partially on roads and was narrow & unmarked. Some of the scenery was pretty nice except it was mostly residential.

The short segments near Stetson U, downtown and Earl Brown Park were hard to find and seemed to be just wide sidewalks (especially along Taylor Rd). Riding on the busy roads wasn't much better or safer.

Future plans look good for this area but for now it wasn't worth the drive from NSB ... definitely not a destination ride.

It's about time

I'm already starting to hear the complaints from the anti-cyclists and the "Not-in-my-backyard" crowd. They want it both ways. They want us off the road but they also don't want bike trails which will reduce a lot of bike traffic on the roads. I think it's great that East Volusia county is finally doing something with the tax dollars that will actually benefit the residence, for a change, instead of always benefiting tourists. I'm looking forward to the new Volusia bike paths since my off road mountain biking days have come to an end due to health issues.

Another Potential Great Ride

Wow this trail is going to be great. This will get you through some beautiful Florida country side all the way from Orange City/Deland to New Smyrna beach following the old railroad bed that was abandoned in the 1930's. I see that it is about 25 miles long with a 8 mile back country stretch.

Volusia County has done a wonderful job on these trails and I just wonder when this will be on the radar.
