The Murdock Trail, named after the businessman who donated the land to the City of Lincoln, travels east-west for nearly 5 miles through northern Lincoln and its Havelock neighborhood. The trail runs along a former Rock Island Railroad corridor, established in the 1850s to ferry passengers across the Midwest.
Along the crushed stone and asphalt path, two neighborhood parksMahoney and Ballardprovide opportunities for residents to play baseball, basketball, tennis and other sports. For longer journeys, travelers can connect directly to the
John Dietrich Bikeway at the Murdock Trail's western end and the
84th Street Trail on Lincoln's eastern edge.
Parking for the Murdock Trail can be found in Ballard Park at the intersection of N. 66th Street and Kearney Avenue and in Mahoney Park, accessed from the intersection of N. 70th Street and Fremont Street.
