Description

With funds from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation the Delfosse Trail was built by Nelson County on the property of a local winery. The 5.5-mile loop is open to hikers and mountain bikers, and includes scheduled ATV rides. The trail winds through rock outcrops and amid the forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia.

The trail is open from 9 a.m. until dusk; however, you should avoid using the trail during hunting season (mid-Nov. to early Jan.). If you choose to use the trail during hunting season, wear hunter orange and make sure dogs are on a leash. For more information about opening times and days, contact the Nelson County Department of Parks and Recreation at 434-263-7130.

Parking and Trail Access

To reach the trailhead from US 29 south of Charlottesville, look for signs to the DelFosse Winery in Faber. Turn onto Route 616 (Hickory Creek Rd) and continue for 2.3 miles. Turn right on Route 634 (Old Roberts Mountain Rd) and follow 0.8 mile to the winery entrance on left. Once you enter through the gate turn right at the "Y" and follow signs to the parking area.

The trail is south of Charlottesville VA, NOT Charlotte! The directions indicate a different city in a different state!
