Print Friendly MapThe East River Trail winds for just over 6 miles along its namesake waterway through the communities of Green Bay, Bellevue, Allouez, De Pere, and Ledgeview. Its first section was developed in 1990 and additional sections (some disconnected from the others) were added over the years.
The trail is truly a beauty, passing through wooded areas, open fields, and several parks. Keep a lookout for deer, turkeys, rabbits, herons, red-tailed hawks, and the many other animals that call the area home. A few bridges also dot the way, offering nice stopping points to enjoy the river views.
Just a few blocks to the west, the Fox River State Trail parallels its own scenic river for 25 miles. Together, they could make for an enjoyable biking tour through Green Bay and its southern suburbs. Proposals are even in the works to join the two trails.
Parking is available in several of the parks that the trail runs through, from north to south:
At Hoffman Road the trail is impassible. Not by water, but by mud and debris 9-29-20
I decided to give this trail another try on my way back from South Depere. Many of the areas that have been underwater were heavy with debris and algae which could cause for caution to avoid taking a fall on my road bike. Once I cross the bridge heading towards Allouez Avenue just passed Green Isle Park the trail was blocked off still I’m assuming due to the boardwalks still being underwater. But all in all on his trail is open and dry
not sure where they get the 5 star or 6.5miles but we did this trail today and while portions were under water which can not be helped due to excessive rainfalls, the trail was perhaps 3 miles max and uneventful.
Perfect for kids and families!
Very nice trail that connects several parks with many different athletic facilities. Follows along the river closely. Only downside is parts of the trail may be flooded when the river is high.
I LOVE the ERT! It is nice to have an urban trail that is surrounded by nature.
For the first time I have a concern about it- the waste recepticles have been overflowing since Memorial Day weekend!
I ride this trail sometimes several days a week. It is really nice on weekdays. Its can busy at certain times but never too crowded. Watch your speed on blind corners as other riders and walkers/runners may come up quick.
