Eldorado Bicycle and Walking Path Description

The City of Eldorado Bicycle and Walking Path is an excellent example of trails as linear parks. The City of Eldorado and the Eldorado Garden Study Club both work to keep the landscaped trailway and its flower gardens splendidly maintained and beautiful. There is an Avenue of Honor with plaques, engraved stones and a small grove of trees paying tribute to local veterans. Trailside there is an old railroad signal light and a concrete train platform with its vintage light posts.

The trail is built over a roadbed of the old L&N (Louisville and Nashville) Railroad which had its station near where the public library stands today. Near Railroad Street (downtown), the Eldorado Trail directly intersects the Tunnel Hill State Trail coming from Harrisburg and points beyond. Just south of their intersection still stands the old Union Station which once serviced both lines. You can't recognize the old station, as it's been added to and built around over the years.

This rail-trail is entirely flat with a concrete surface except for the last 0.5 mile in the north, where it leaves the linear park of the city to travel through a narrow woods on crushed rock.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available on-street in downtown Eldorado. From the trail intersection, take the Tunnel Hill State Trail west to 4th Street, where parking is plentiful.

Eldorado Bicycle and Walking Path Reviews

great walk in the fall

Just started walking this at lunch and it great. Flat mostly shady, clean and all concrete

Beautiful Serendipity!

We didn't even know this trail existed. We were just on a ride to check out the new extension of the Tunnel Hill Trail, up from Harrisburg. We went by downtown Eldorado. Then BOOM! Out of nowhere, there's this other trail crossing! We circled back around to see where this trail went.. and could not have been happier that we did! It is beautifully adorned with gardens, memorials, and reminders of its railroad past. Local folks are obviously proud of what they have -- and for good reason!
