George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail Description

The George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail, in western Houston, starts at the west end of the Terry Hershey Park Hike and Bike Trail and, together, they offer a continuous 22-mile ride.

The park itself sprawls 7,800 acres and has a number of recreational amenities, including ballfields, picnic areas, a shooting range, and wildlife habitat. Note that the park's paved trail is largely unshaded.

Parking and Trail Access

Exit I-10W at Highway 6 and go south. There is trail parking at Buffalo Bayou and just beyond at Briar Forrest Drive. If you want enter George Bush Park (16756 Westheimer Parkway), continue south on Highway 6 to Westheimer Road, then veer right on Westheimer Parkway. Turn right on Barker Cypress heading toward the equestrian center. This will dead end into a parking lot.

George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail Reviews

Love it!

I have been riding it for almost a year. I have ridden through shallow flood waters, but never close to a gator. The number of days per year the trials are flooded is very small. This morning was the first time the trail was blocked by a down tree due to storms last night. Of course, if we have a hurricane like Harvey again, all of George Bush Park will be closed for weeks.

I love this place

It is an excellent place to do any exercise, I love riding my bike ¿¿¿¿¿

Terrible for jogging

Alligators, flooding and potholes.

Never again

Nasty park. Flooded every here. Roads in need of repair. Crocodiles on the path.

Awesome trail

This is a nice quiet trail in Houston. Watch for flooding after a heavy rainfall.

out and back 30 to 45 miles

I start on Cinco Ranch Blvd. where it crosses Buffalo Bayou and ride to Hwy 6 where it connects to the Terry Hershey trail for a 30 mile out and back ride. I can extend to approximately 45 miles if I ride on Terry Hershey to the Beltway. Very nice trail ride. I only have to cross a few streets.

Great trail, but underwater today.

If you’re headed to the park today be wary. There are areas that are still under water from the heavy rains this past weekend.

More than expected

It’s a great trail and best part it connects with another trail which makes it even better for longer bike rides

ride from Barker Cypress

It was very nice, highly recommendable

lovely trail

Well used trail. Lots of shade and beautiful scenery. I wish bikers would be more courteous, and call out when passing, i.e. on your right. And slow down when high traffic and pedestrians. It is not a race. ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

East trail head still closed 2/1/20

You can connect from the Terry Hershey trail but it is annoying not to have updated information on trailhead and parking status. What’s a good source? Great ride once you get to it, though!

Great for speed in the early AM; by noon it is toddler city

Not much by way of elevation, no appreciable mountain biking, otherwise very nice.

East Trail Head Closed

The east trail head and parking lot are closed at Noble Rd (Briar Forest Dr) and Highway 6 until summer of 2019. The connector to Terry Hershey trail has some construction but is passable.

Great Urban Trail

Love the trail, long enough to really get a good work out. Very pleasant to ride thru the swamps/reservoir. Good wild life.

I love it!

This is a great place to walk or bike ride. With the scenery, I often exercise more without noticing because I am looking around.

nice casual riding

Just rode this trail today. 3-6 ft wide asphalt trail that is easy and casual for the whole family or any MTN/Roadie who just wants to put some miles in.

Awesome bike trail

Nice long trail
