Description:
When completed, the Gitchi-Gami State Trail will traverse 88 miles, paved, between Two Harbors and Grand Marais. Currently, several segments, totaling 25 miles, are open between the two end points. The trail provides a non-motorized, safer alternative to Highway 61.
The Gitchi-Gami Trail Association's mission is to promote, plan and construct this premier recreational trail to link communities, state parks and points of interest along the north shore of Lake Superior. Other project stakeholders include the Minnesota DOT, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission.
