Gordon River Greenway Description

The Gordon River Greenway offers an easy and convenient taste of the Florida wild through a 126-acre natural area in the heart of Naples. The first phase of the pathway opened in 2014 and the pavement is silky smooth and 12 feet wide, winding through a mixture of palm trees, pine flatwoods, and scrubland. The trail is interspersed with elevated boardwalk sections over wetlands, where you can watch for birds, tortoises, and other wildlife. Bump-outs on bridge crossings over the Gordon River provide spots to fish or simply enjoy the views.

It’s truly a refreshing experience: lush, green, and well-maintained with frequent covered benches to stop and take it all in. Open daily until 10 p.m., the trail is well-lighted and feels safe for nighttime excursions as well. Several access points with parking, bike racks, restrooms, and drinking fountains make the trail doable for most ages and abilities. Situated nearby, the Naples Zoo and a canoe and kayak launch offer additional opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The trail now extends to the south end of the airport where it circles 2 small ponds; and to the west it crosses back over the Gordon River along a gorgeous new bridge. On the other end of the bridge is Baker's Park, which is under construction. Gordon Park is bordered by Central Avenue, Goodlette-Frank Rd. and the new Greenway Bridge.

Parking and Trail Access

From US 41 (Tamiami Trail), turn east onto Golden Gate Parkway (County Road 886). Drive on the parkway for 1 mile until you see the entrance for Gordon River Greenway Park on your right (the south side of the roadway). This is the northern trailhead and parking area for the greenway.

Gordon River Greenway Reviews

This is one of my favorite places to walk. Has a connection to the park which I love. There is also an outlet near the zoo.

beautiful bike ride

Taking all the side parts of this paved/boardwalk trail, we got in 6 miles from Gordon River Greenway Park to the end where it dead ends into a regular street near another park. Great for a leisurely bike ride, not appropriate for going fast on bikes b/c of the winding path and pedestrians that have right of way. Very scenic.

Well worth the trip!

Made a nice day trip out of this by going past the airport to Baker's park. From there a few blocks into Naples to Gulfshore Blvd and then north to Lowdermilk Park and had lunch and refreshments at Rita's there at the beachside pavillion. We reversed that course and made it a 14.5 mile round trip, but found later that if we would have went north from Lowdermilk towards Doctors Pass, we could have wound up just a couple blocks from the parking lot back at Gordon River Park. Also could have had some beach time at Lowdermilk if we had brought our swimwear! Very nice beach facility there. Highly recommended trip!

connection to Baker park and beach

This is a great trail that gives you many options. You can do the boardwalk and loop back to parking lot about 3.5 miles. You can venture further and go watch the private jets take off at the nearby Naples Airport. Baker Park is two or three miles away and has many recreational facilities and activities. We went to Baker Park and then used the municipal bike lane straight to the Naples Beach. The homes along the city route were stunning. Round trip we went 12 miles and had a great time and stopped for lunch at the Naples Pub off 10 Street.

nice easy ride

Beautiful, relaxing ride. Scenic ride. Make sure you have a bell to warn walkers you are passing on the left. If golden gate parking is full, you can park off of Goddlette- Frank BLVD near the zoo.

Great path

Cool trail with several nice bridges over the Gordon river and a new bridge to Baker Park. Can add a few more miles to the ride by going past the end of the trail past the Naples airport

beautiful ride on boardwalks and new pavement

Wonderful people safe and beautiful marked trails with with informative naturalist information. Can’t wait to try it in the fall and spring.

Wonderful Walk

Great trail. This is a well maintained asphalt and wooden boardwalk type trail. It's great that people can walk their dogs along this trail. We didn't see any wildlife, but the walk was invigorating and beautiful!

Great Trail

Clean, well maintained, and short. Great for one-two hours.

Nice trail, wish we had more like it.

As a local, it's a great paved trail. You can walk or ride your bike knowing that grandpa is not going to run you over anytime soon. There are several bike lanes or paths in Naples, but traffic can be crazy at times where it can be dangerous to ride on those paths. This trail and Rich King greenway are great places to ride with kids and family where the cars are not a issue. Clean bathrooms and water, sometimes on the Gordon river you may even see a manatee. On the south end of the trail, if decided to get on the road you ride to the Naples airport, there is set of benches there right near the runway which you can see planes takeoff or land neat experience for the little ones. Great trail, go out and ride it.

Gordon River Greenway

The trail is lovely, as others have said. It's approx. 1 mile long. However, as you exit the end of the trail, if you want to keep going, there's another 2 miles, lovely, low traffic, a loop around Naples Airport. Sweet little ride, with the small airport on one side, palm trees on the other, very nice landscaping. If you do the whole thing, it's 6 miles round trip. If you want more, rinse and repeat. Free parking in Naples Zoo, right at the start.

Great for Family Riding

Just went on this trail November 26, 2016. Beautiful scenery and wildlife. Plenty of dog walkers and families and good parking with restrooms. Not a challenging trail for bikers (a bit short) but great to get out for about 1 hour (quick ride) and see the marshes / canal ways; very enjoyable. 99% flat (what would you expect in Florida?) but one area of the board walk ascends about 10 feet and may be difficult for riders under age 10 - they can always walk their bikes up the bridge ramp...about 3- 5 minutes).

peaceful

A little too short for biking but it is beautiful and quiet. It is clean and nicely paved with some stretches of Boardwalk. There is also a small mulched loop through the trees that is very nice.

Nice Walking and Nature Trail

This trail is very convenient for many. It's a great trail to walk. The scenery is beautiful and the river view is great. Unfortunately, it's too short to ride. If there were a way to extend it to about 5 miles each way, I would ride it often.
