Description:
Tracing a section of the abandoned Rural Valley Railroad corridor the Great Shamokin Path parallels the Cowanshannock Creek for 3.5 miles. The eastern part of the trail, which is surfaced primarily with dirt and gravel, is most suitable for biking and jogging. The western section is mostly grass.
Much of the trail features a lovely tree canopy that provides relief on a hot summer's day. Wildlife can be seen along much of the trail, especially in the early morning, but watch out for the spiderwebs! The trail ends at the water treatment plant after crossing the Cowanshannock Creek.

From Kittanning, take 85 East toward Yatesboro. Pass though Yatesboro and turn right on Center Street (Township Road 746). Parking is available on the right hand side near the baseball fields. The trail begins on the west side of the baseball fields.

Over-run by Western Pennsyl-tucky quad riders.

Unfortunately, as with most attempts to better the quality of life for the community, the close minded Pennsyl-tucky-ians who live in the area can't leave well enough alone. The trail is rutted, muddy, at least 2 quad widths wide and in some places it's wide enough for 2 trucks with "big mud tires" to go boggin' side by side.
I never understood why anyone would buy a quad capable of climbing a vertical wall, but choose to ride on a perfectly flat tract of land and rip it all up. I am sure the little bubbas' in the area have to "earn" the right to ride with the bigger bubbas' by ripping up a nice trail intended for those "faggots" on bicycles.

Needless to say, don't waste your time with this trail. Unless your looking for a nice flat piece of land to ride your killer quad.
