Print Friendly MapAlthough less than 2 miles long, the Hagan-Burke Trail provides valuable connections to three other trails in the city of Carmel: the Monon Trail (an 18-mile RTC Hall-of-Famer that stretches to Indianapolis), the 146th Street Trail that travels east-west through town, and the Greyhound Trail. The paved trail, named after two community leaders, Judy Hagan and Ed Burke, winds through wooded areas along Cool Creek.
The Hagan-Burke Trail runs between E. 146th St. (Carmel) and the Monon Trail.

Connecting the Monon and 146th street near MCAlister’s Deli the HBT is a wonderful ride. I try to use it at least twice a week. Really a pleasant cruise.
This is a great trail to help avoid the congested area of 146 street in Carmel/Westfield, especially if you are going east off the Monon trail. Also a great access toward Carmel High Athletic field using Greyhound pass trail.
I tried this trail for the first time yesterday on my commute home. I picked up the trail from the Monon trail and then followed it up to the 146th street trail. With the Rangeline road improvements there is now a dedicated crossing with crosswalk and lights. The trail is fairly wooded and there is a creek that runs along side. Due to all the rain a section of the trail was flooded near the apartments but I was able to ride through okay. The trail had good signage which was nice because there were several offshoots that one could easily take and get lost without them.
Hagan-Burke is great for getting a little extra mileage when cycling the Carmel portion of the Monon. Recent improvements have been made and the entire trail is paved. Hagen-Burke's north end puts you on the sidewalk across from shopping on 146th Street just east of the new by-passes/exits at Keystone and Hwy 31.
