Description:
Located in the southwestern portion of Prince George's County, Maryland, Henson Creek Trail is currently 5.8 miles long. The trail (also known as the Matthew Henson Greenway) is a stream valley greenway running between the Suitland Parkway and the Potomac River. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission owns the majority of the corridor. The greenway provides water quality and resource protection benefits and a connection to the Potomac Scenic Heritage Trail. A 5.8 mile hiker/biker/equestrian trail exists in this corridor, with an estimated three miles to be completed.

Extending from Temple Hill Road southward to Oxon Hill Road, the trail goes through Henson Creek Neighborhood Park, crosses Brinkley Road through the Henson Creek Stream Valley Park, passes Rosecroft Raceway, Tucker Road Community Park, Tucker Road Ice Rink, and Henson Creek Golf Course, and crosses Indian Head Highway before reaching its southern terminus. The trail provides a scenic, recreational route through Henson Creek Stream Valley Park for hiking, biking, jogging, horseback riding, and in-line skating.

Henson Creek Trail- Parking lot
By KBwalker in September, 2010
This is a very nice trail. There seem to be plenty of people walking along it, especially on the weekends.

I do warn anyone planning to walk this trail to NOT park at the small parking lot just off Brinkley Road (down the Street from Jumbo International Foods Grocery Store). Our car was broken into today 9/19/10. Nothing of value was taken (we don't leave stuff in the car), but the driver's side window was smashed completely and the idiot who committed this crime also damaged the ignition, so we had to have the car towed. It was an unfortunate ending to an otherwise nice day.

Just park your car elsewhere instead of on this little lot, which frankly is kind of hard to get out of anyway, as it's hard to see oncoming traffic when exiting. And remember to bring your cellphone along, just in case.
