Description:
The portion of the
Homestead Trail owned
by the NRD is completed
and a dedication was held by
the NRD November 17th at
Roca Berry Farm, with a barbecue
lunch at the Roca
Community Center, courtesy
of the Great Plains Trails
Network, to honor all who
helped make the trail possible.
The trail, from 25th Street
and Saltillo Road to Cortland
had been under construction
since summer 2007 and is part of a
more than 60-mile corridor
owned by several
entities between Lincoln
and Marysville, Kansas.
The NRD-owned portion
is the second stretch to
be developed, after
Beatrice developed its
portion of the trail from
Beatrice to Pickrell earlier this
year. The trail, at the north
end, is connected to the City
of Lincolns Jamaica North
Trail and Wilderness Park.
Parking is available along the
Jamaica North Trail in
Wilderness Park at Old
Cheney Road and at Pioneers
Boulevard.
Federal funding through the
Nebraska Department of
Roads and the Nebraska
Game and Parks Commission,
private funding from the
Great Plains Trails Network
and many volunteers helped
the NRD complete the project.

Homestead Corridor Trail
By twirlymaker in October, 2009
Parking near start in Beatrice N40.90028 W097.09178, trail has concrete surface, for 2 miles from just south of Hwy 136. Lime stone surface firm but not smooth, farm fields and wooded creeks, nice concrete surface through Pickrell. Riders told me trail goes into Lincoln with some street riding. Noel Keller 12& 13 Sep 09
