Hutchinson River Greenway Description

The Hutchinson River Greenway offers a convenient alternative to the Hutchinson River Parkway, which it closely follows. Although adjacent to the busy thoroughfare, trees have been planted along the route to help beautify the path and trail-goers can also catch glimpses of the river on their journey. If you wish to continue south to Ferry Point Park to enjoy spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and the waterfront, a bike lane along Brush Avenue will take you there.

Future plans include extending the trail north to Co-op City, a sprawling residential area, and Pelham Bay Park, an expansive natural area of marsh and forest habitat.

Parking and Trail Access

Subway riders can take the 6 to the Middletown Road Station to access the trail.

Double the trails

If you ride a bike through trails at Pelham Bay Park by taking the Hutchinson River Parkway Greenway to Middletown Road and taking Middletown Road to Pelham Bay Park. This allows you to take an extra trail and enjoy more of Pelham Bay Park! If you keep right you can find a beach! This beach contains more safe water space than Orchard Beach.

I love this trail!

I recently moved to the Bronx and as I bicycle rider, I was THRILLED to see how close I live to this greenway. I take it straight to work (it's approximately 4.5 miles, with ONLY .5 of those miles on the street!)

I only gave it 3 stars because it really needs to be cleaned. What agency is responsible for maintaining the greenway? Is there an organized group of volunteers who assist with the maintenance? If so, I would love to help out.

New Construction on this Bikeway?

This weekend, May 4-5, 2013, I noticed a lot of bikeway-building activity along the parkway. Can anybody link me to some information?
