M-5 Metro Trail Description

The M-5 Metro Trail runs for 2 miles between Commerce Township and the city of Novi in southeastern Michigan. The paved trail parallels the west side of its namesake roadway (also known as the Haggerty Connector) from 13 Mile Road to 15 Mile Road. Views along the way include businesses and housing developments, though a pleasant respite can be found as the trail travels through Long Park, a nature preserve that wraps around Berry Lake. Here, you'll find picnic tables, trails to explore and wildlife viewing.

From 13 Mile Road, there is a connection to the I-275 Metro Trail, a paved north-south pathway of more than 30 miles.

Parking and Trail Access

A parking lot is available in Long Park (40558 14 Mile Road, Commerce Township).

M-5 Metro Trail Reviews

Great 2 mile trail

Pretty sure the I-275 connector hasn't been completed yet because we started at Maple and lost the trail at 13 mile. Still a nice 2- mile trail. You can extend your ride by taking to the sidewalk and heading west on 13.

Gravel

Having been a regular user of the I-275 Bikeway, I was pleased to learn that the connector has been completed with the M-5 Metro Trail. SO happy! :)

However, I did notice that the stretch of trail between 14 Mile Rd and 15 Mile Rd is dangerously covered with enough pea gravel to make for a treacherous ride for road bikes. How can we go about getting that portion swept with a street sweeper or something?

Pleasant walk

Just moved to Michigan from Texas and was looking for a place to walk with four kids and a stroller. Found M-5 Metro Trail within walking distance from our house and was pleased with the trail. Wide enough and smooth enough for all the kids and the stroller. Saw geese, swans, ducks, and what we thought was a beaver. Kids loved the wildlife!

Lots of Gravel

Road the trail yesterday, best place to park is at the piano store. You can get on the trail right in front of the store. And then cross over M-5 at the light. The trail is very nice and the nature was outstanding. But, beware there is lots of gravel on the trail. Hope someone is going to maintain the trail too. Can't wait for the expansion.

Paved and safe

Recently paved and a safe distance away from M-5. I used to get close to the start of the West Bloomfield Trail. They are doing some nice landscaping now and I imagine it will look great when they are through.
