Mahomet Village Bike Trail Description

The Mahomet Village Bike Trail is a safe, paved route that connects all the major parts of the village.

On the north, there are the various and popular facilities of the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve: the Museum of the Grand Prairie and the Lake of the Woods Pathbesides golfing, fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking. On the south, there's the large Barber Park, a popular spot for many local events.

There is an elementary school, shopping area, and other village services downtown, and the public library is at the eastern end of the trail. The trail crosses the Sangamon River over a historical bridge built in 1912.

Parking and Trail Access

From I-74, take Exit 172 to State Route 47 (N. Lombard St.) and turn north. Proceed about 1,100 feet and turn left into the parking lot. The trail crosses the highway at the north end of the lot.

There are other parking lots at the following waypoints along the trail: Museum of the Grand Prairie (north), Barber Park (south), Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve (northeast), Mahomet Public Library (southeast).

Mahomet Village Bike Trail Reviews

A Great Village Connector Trail!

This is the best trail I've seen.. for connecting all the major services of a small town. Kids and adults alike can get from home to school, to the library, to the park, and to shop – all over this safe, wide, and off-road concrete trailway.

The Lake of the Woods is a great facility, as is it's own bike path which my wife and I rode a few years ago. Now one can make a grand loop over both trails together. A great way to go over the river (twice!) and through the woods, any season of the year. And those river crossings? One over an old covered bridge and one over an old steel bridge. Nature lovers and dreamers of days gone by, take heart. And enjoy a day in the Village of Mahomet.
