Print Friendly MapPart of Manheim Township's growing network of multi-use greenways, the Manheim Township Bikeway begins off Kissel Hill Road, immediately north of the intersection with Landis Valley Road. Heading east, the trail passes the Hands-On-House and winds around the southern and eastern sides of the adjacent Landis Valley Museum, one of the area's major tourist attractions, to Valley Road (not to be confused with Landis Valley Road). This portion of the trail ends at Valley Road, on the north side of the Landis Valley Farm Museum. Trail users should make a sharp, right turn onto Valley Road, which intersects with Route 272, also known as Oregon Pike, about 200 feet to the east. The crossing at Route 272, a busy road with high-speed traffic, is poorly marked, and trail users should be very careful.
The trail resumes east of Route 272 and enters the Settlements of Landis Valley subdivision. Here, there is another small on-road concurrency along Henry Court, followed by a final off-road section of trail that ends at Hunsicker Road.
In addition to connecting two local tourist attractions and a few subdivisions, the Manheim Bikeway also indirectly connects to the nearby Heritage Trail via a side-path along Delp Road, and by signed, on-road concurrencies to several other points in the suburban township.
The trail is accessible from the lot for the Hands On House and Landis Valley museums.
We began with this trail but connected it with at least 13 more that, including the connecting road sections, totaled around 35 miles. Several of the trails are not named and some of the road sections can be busy. I was able to use Traillink.com maps to create this route. Starting at the Landis Valley Farm Museum and the Manheim Township Trail then to Stoner Park, beside Eden Road, through the Lancaster Bible College, Overlook Park, the Heritage Trail, the Kissel Hill Commons Trail, around the Manheim Township Athletic Complex, the Manheim Township Community Park Trail, Warwick Township Highlands Trail, along Bachman Run, the Brighton-Reidenbaugh Park Trail and through some of the trails around the Manheim Township High School. Since first doing this ride I've added 6 more short trails to the ride. The group of riders that I ride with are mostly retired folks ranging in age from early 60s to mid 70s.
