Print Friendly MapTravelers on the Mariners Trail will be spoiled with beautiful vistas of beaches, parks, forests and the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan. Supplementing the scenic landscapes are several trailside gardens and public art pieces.
The 6-mile paved pathway traces the shoreline of the Great Lake, connecting the cities of Two Rivers and Manitowoc. The route is easy and pleasant, being relatively straight and flat with numerous parks along the way.
On the south side, trail-goers also have access to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, where visitors can learn about the sailing and shipbuilding heritage of the region and board the World War II submarine USS Cobia for a tour.
Parking can be found at Lake Shore Park (Memorial Drive in Two Rivers) and Lakeview Park (Maritime Drive in Manitowoc). See the TrailLink map for a full list of parking spots along the trail.
Recently rode this trail two times. Stayed in Two Rivers and headed into Manitowoc for dinner and lunch. Stupendous views, beautifully landscaped with floral gardens and easy access to the downtown areas of both cities.
The trail is along Lake Michigan and is beautifully paved and landscaped. But being along a four lane highway makes it less enjoyable.
Nice trail. Lots of views of lake Michigan. Would like an endpoint trail sign. Took this to the Rawley Point trail.
Smooth ride, great views, but LOTS of traffic noise. A highway runs next to the trail and was very distracting.
A great well maintained asphalt trail . Can be busy at times, but a great view of Lake Michigan!
The southern start of the trail begins at maritime museum and submarine. We arrived just as the Manitowoc ferry, SS Badger did to dock. Then, wow passed by numerous meticulously cared-for gardens along the way. The view of lake was magnificent as the trail was right along side it. On this hot day everywhere else was in the 90s and the temp was refreshing near lake temperature. We have to go back and take it slower to enjoy the metal art and statues of Indians.
I rode this trail today and was underwhelmed. It is very average. I rode from the south end all the way to the end,and then rode the Rawley Point Trail. On the way back on the Mariner's trail I rode on the same side of the trail that I started on. Why on earth are there so many signs saying "do not enter" on the way back heading south? There is no path on the other side of the road,and it's a 45 MPH road. I would not ride on that road.
Very nice, easy ride with fantastic views of Lake Michigan the whole way.
Was 96 deg in Milwaukee, 68 on the trail! perfect triking weather Would have stayed another day but the hotels are too pricey. Book a hotel in advance!
Great for Warm Days- Great connection with Rawley Point Trail in Two Rivers for a 30 mile up and back trip. On this late June day it was expected to be 90 degrees in Southern Wisconsin. Temps here by the lake were wonderfully cooler with a nice breeze off the lake. This matched the nicely cooler temperatures of the Rawley Trail in the cool woods to the north. Biked Mariner from Manitowoc to Two Rivers and then the Rawley to Point Beach State Park Concessions/Lodge for lunch and back south to the start. 30 miles up and back. Baymont Hotel is on the lake and on the Trail in Manitowoc - trailhead is downtown by a nice coffee shop (Manitowoc Coffee - M-Sa 7-7, closed Sunday). We started at the Baymont. Mariner is beautifully paved with all the worderful things mentioned by other reviewers. Rawley Trail outside of Two Rivers is mostly a wider trail with pea gravel - very nice and you can sneak in a lot of side by side riding if it's not busy. Nice option to have lunch at the north end open I believe 11 am to 4 pm for food - may want to check before leaving. Linking these trails made for a nice mostly flat 30 mile, 5 hour trip at about 10 miles/hr with a lot of stopping to see the sites and flowers along the Mariner Trail, which included about 30 min for lunch. Someone else recommended this combo of trails and it did not disappoint.
We love biking along water. Beautiful scenery & cool breezes. The Mariners Trail has both. But as a bonus, local groups & residents plant flowers & such along the route. Lovely.
This short trail from Manitowoc to Two Rivers is filled with sunshine and cool lake breezes. Rode the path August 1,2015 had a great time. This is a multi use path so speed riders may want to choose another path. Gardeners will love the variations of plant life on one of the most manicured paths Ive ever encountered. Worth the drive!
On the morning of July 16, 2012, I very much enjoyed doing the thirteen-mile round trip on this picturesque paved trail along Lake Michigan, starting out and ending up in homey Two Rivers, with a brief peddle-through of the larger Manitowoc half-way through the adventure. The vistas of the vast cool Lake were very welcome in this hot, dry summer we're having, and it was a real pleasure seeing so many bicyclists of all ages and skill levels, most of them with big smiles on their faces. Excellent, well-kept and well-used trail.
