Print Friendly MapThe Monterey Erie Trail occupies the same railbanked corridor as the longer North Judson Erie Trail to its west, and the two rail-trails are planned to be linked in the future. The paved pathway traverses the heart of Monterey, not far from the Tippecanoe River, providing access to the town hall, restaurants, the post office and the local library.
Monterey and North Judson once saw frequent freight service between the two communities, first by the Erie Lackawanna Railway, and later by the Erie and Western Railway, Tippecanoe Railroad, and JK Lines. The 16-mile corridor was put up for abandonment in 2003, but, fortunately, the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum stepped in to preserve the corridor for public use.
Parking for the Monterey Erie Trail is available at the old railroad depot, located near the intersection of Center Street and Erie Street.
Nice trail. Hopefully it does connect to Erie trail out of North Judson one day. If it does it needs to stay one one side since HVRM owns right of way to Monterey. This be nice trail if both railroad and trail share same ground!
