MoPac Trail (Pleasant Hill) Description

The MoPac Trail begins in Pleasant Hill's charming downtown area and heads northwest towards Pleasant Hill Lake and the outskirts of Kansas City. The rail-trail is named for the former Missouri Pacific Railroad, which you can learn about at the beautifully refurbished MoPac depot near the trailhead. Throughout the city are colorful murals that depict the area’s history and culture, as well as banners proudly proclaiming, “From Rail Town to Trail Town."

The commercial district bustles with antique stores, art boutiques, cafés, and a bike shop. Outside of town, the trail winds through woodlands and open fields. An extension is planned to continue the MoPac Trail another few miles northwest by early 2017.

In town, you can also pick up another rail-trail, the Rock Island Spur, which stretches 47.5-miles to Windsor, where it connects to the world-renowned 238-mile Katy Trail State Park.

Parking and Trail Access

In Pleasant Hill, you can park at the MoPac depot (100 Wyoming St.) in the heart of town.
