North Hills Harmony Trail Description

The Harmony Trail in the North Hills is a work in progress, managed by volunteers with the Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy. So far, about 0.6 mile of a proposed 4.3 miles of abandoned rail corridor have been completed. The conservancy is focusing its efforts on developing the corridor between Ingomar and Warrendale.

The rail line was originally an interurban trolley line that ran between Pittsburgh, Evans City, Butler and New Castle from 1908 to 1931. Today, the old track follows a wooded corridor parallel to Route 19.

Parking and Trail Access

From the Wexford Exit on US 79, travel east for just under 2 miles on Wexford Road (Rt 910). Parking is at the bottom of the hill at Wexford Run.

North Hills Harmony Trail Reviews

Nice but short

I biked this trail on 6/6/2020 with a hybrid bike. The trail has a slight descent from the trailhead off of Rt 910 to its current end point. Its surface is the standard crushed limestone used on most Rail Trails. There is plenty of room for parking at the Trailhead. At the moment, the trail is only 0.65 miles long.

Good trail, but some hill issues

I would highly recommend this trail to anyone who is unfamiliar with gravel biking as a starter trail. The only problem this the trail can only be accessed by going through private property, a busy road, or steep hills. The trail is 5/5, but the entrances caused me to rate it 4/5.

Nice trail, but shorter than shown

The trail resembles a gravel driveway, is well kept and in good shape. The listing on this site shows it at 1.0 miles long, but in reality it's only .65 miles. The trail may extend beyond the paving, but that's marked Private Property and is untreated and uneven ground.
