Print Friendly MapO'Malley's Alley is a paved, half-mile trail through a residential area south of Kaufman Lake on the western end of Champaign. On Kenwood Road (at the eastern end of the trail), trail users can head south on the sidewalk along the roadway to reach Centennial High School, Jefferson Middle School and Centennial Park. At the south end of the park, there is the unique attraction of Prairie Farm run by the city's park district and home to horses, cows, sheep and other barnyard animals.
For a longer journey, pick up the paved spur that connects to the trail just east of the bridge. Follow it along the east side of Copper Slough, then cross W. Springfield Avenue and head into Kaufman Park, where there's a gravel road trail users can take all the way around the lake.
Nearby parking is available at Prairie Farm (2202 W. Kirby Avenue), Centennial High School (913 S. Crescent Drive) and Jefferson Middle School (1115 S. Crescent Drive).
A waste of time . It is also not the safest area in Champaign
This trail serves the purpose of connecting the Sholem pool/Centennial Park and schools area to Kaufman Lake & Heritage Park. The CPD recently added more trail just west of El Toro to connect O'Malley's Alley to Kaufman Lake. Be careful crossing Springfield Ave.! If Duncan Rd is ever improved, it would be nice if this trail was extended to Duncan.
There is nothing to recommend this trail. It's very short; it doesn't connect to any other trail; it has no adjacent parking; it offers nothing special to look at. Maybe it's a rail-trail with a catchy name, but that's it. It's really just a wide, off-street sidewalk through a city neighborhood.
