Pantano River Park Trail Description

The Pantano River Park Trail follows Pantano Wash northwest from a junction with the Harrison Greenway to Tanque Verde Road, providing direct trail access to thousands of residents of Tucson. The smoothly paved trail features undercrossings at every road, allowing for safe and uninterrupted travel throughout.

A future extension will continue the trail northwest to the Rillito River Park Trail. Both trails, along with the Harrison Greenway, are integral components of a larger trail network called The Chuck Huckelberry Loop, spanning more than 136 miles throughout Tucson and Pima County.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Pantano River Park Trail is available at a trailhead on S. Pantano Parkway, north of E. Golf Links Road. A second trailhead with parking can be found at the intersection of E. Centrepark Drive and E. Palace Park Loop.

A few difficult spots for beginner roller blader

I skated from the parking lot at E 22nd to Michael Perry Park & back. On the way there, there were two spots with hills but I was able to manage them ok as a beginner skater, although it did feel a bit fast on the downhill. On the way back, I did the first downhill slope & it felt too fast for me & I felt off-balance a few times. When I got to the 2nd downhill, I chose to take the side path onto the sidewalk along the street & ended up taking that all the way back because there wasn't a great spot to cross back over. I would consider myself a beginner but did used to roller blade a lot indoors around 28 years ago, so not completely new to roller blading.

The trail is nice & it was fun to skate while my kids rode their bikes, then have that break at the park before returning.

Nicely Done

We started on the east end of the trail at the Michael Perry Park (nice park and plenty of parking). Rode to the west end of the trail. Path is plenty wide and smooth. Did have to detour to the west side of the "river" at Speedway, as a new main road bridge is being built across the river bed. The trail does end a short distance from the Tanque Verde road crossing. All the street crossings are under the main roads. Other trail users were generally friendly with a good morning. The east end of the trail connects to the Harrison Road trail. Over all enjoyed the ride. Would recommend this one while in Tucson.
