Peebles Trail Description

The Peebles Trail is a nearly 6-mile pathway, linking Fond du Lac at the southern edge of Lake Winnebago with St. Peter (Taycheedah) to its east. The trail also passes through the unincorporated community of Peebles for which it is named.

Roughly half of the trail (closer to Fond du Lac) occupies a former railroad corridor enveloped by thick stands of trees. Here the trail features a crushed-stone surface, and is a bit more scenic than its eastern component. At US 151, the trail merges with the paved Prairie Trail. The trails overlap on their joint route north to County Highway WH, where the Peebles Trail turns east before ultimately ending in the St. Peter area of Taycheedah.

Like many of the communities in Fond du Lac County's Holyland, St. Peter developed around a central church. From the Peebles Trail's end along County Highway WH, continue east less than a mile to reach the historic St. Peter Catholic Church at Church Road.

Parking and Trail Access

A large official parking area for the Peebles Trail is nestled between US 151 and Winnebago Drive in Taycheedah.

Peebles Trail Reviews

Crushed stone was upgraded to asphalt by the end of 2022. Much smoother ride from end to end. Still absent a direct link into Lakeside Park.

No asphalt, all stone. However, looked like a portion is being re-done.

Nice Trail

We rode the Peebles Trail, Prairie Trail, and The Loop around Fond Du Lac on September 19. Our route was 22 miles. The Loop is a marked route around the city that takes you on city streets. There are a few busy crossings, but much of the route takes you on lesser traveled streets. There are marked bike lanes on some of the streets. They have it marked pretty well with signs and painted arrows and the word Loop on the pavement. The paint is getting faded and needs to be repainted, but you can still make the arrows out. Almost all is pavement, but there is a portion that is hard packed limestone which is in good condition. This is a ride that we would make again if we were in the area.
