Description:
The Penobscot Ridge Mountain Bike Area encompasses the large reclaimed areas of land to the south of Wanamie and the conservation lands of Penobscot Ridge. The combination of existing trails on the site, interesting vegetation, open fields, wooded areas and non-dangerous mine features make mountain biking an ideal low-impact interim use for the site.

The trail includes two trailhead facilities with picnic areas including tables and grills and ample parking are located at either end of the two-mile long trail.

The mountain bike area consists of a main trunk trail suitable for families, which has easy to moderate bicycling opportunities. The second technical trail provides a more challenging ride, which would be suitable for experienced mountain bike trail riders.

Parking & Trail Access:
From Route 29- Take Exit 2 and make a left at the end of the ramp. Follow road until it ends at a stop sign. Make a left hand turn and then bear to the right until you hit the next stop sign. Make a left on to W. Kirmar Ave (you will pass the Parkway Inn). Follow Kirmar Pkwy for approximately 3/4 mile to Regional Equipment Center on left. Trailhead One is located here. If you chose to start at the second Trailhead, continue to follow W. Kirmar Ave about 1.5 miles making a left, on to W. Main St, after you pass a self storage facility near the baseball field. Trailhead 2 is on your right about 1/4 of a mile.

Penobscot Ridge Mountain Bike Trail

This is a nice trail especially for the beginner. Each trail head has a pretty significant incline to get on to the trail. This trail has a little bit of everything for all experience levels. There is a wonderful waterfall and overlook to take a break and enjoy the sounds of the water. Part of the trail is nice rock course which can be very tricky under wet conditions. The trail also leads you along a nice open pasture with a great view of the Southern Valley.
