Phyllis Harmon Path Description

Although the Phyllis Harmon Path is short, it's an important connector in an east-west bike/ped route between Arlington Heights and Glencoe. Following Dundee Road, the paved trail goes from the Des Plaines River to the Tri-State Tollway. It provides access to the Des Plaines River Trail, which stretches more than 50 miles across two counties (Lake and Cook) and reaches the Wisconsin border.

Phyllis Harmon, a former Wheeling resident for whom the trail is named, is an inductee in the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. For more than 60 years she worked for the League of American Bicyclists, the oldest bicycling organization in the country. Founded in 1880 as the League of American Wheelman, the organization went inactive after World War II; Harmon played a key role in its revival back to national prominence.

Parking and Trail Access

A parking lot can be found in Potawatomi Woods along the east bank of the Des Plaines River, just north of Dundee Road and east of Milwaukee Avenue.

Phyllis Harmon Path Reviews

OK if you need it.

I guess this is a good enough trail if you need it. But that would only be to more safely ride along Dundee Road between Wheeling and Northbrook, or to cross Dundee Road on the Des Plaines River Trail. It has a great view of the river from the bridge, but nothing more.
