Description

The Sergeant Road Trail is part of the larger trails system in the Cedar Valley region of Iowa, which includes the cities of Cedar Falls and Waterloo. The trail parallels US 63—also known as Sergeant Road—from Waterloo to Hudson through rural and park areas.

The trail is built on a railroad corridor originally constructed by the Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska Railway (The Old Diagonal) in the late 19th century. At Cedar Falls Junction south of US 20, the Cedar Prairie Trail, which follows the grade of the CGW Cedar Falls Branch through the Blackhawk Creek Greenbelt, connects to the Sergeant Road Trail.

There is a short on-road section of trail in Hudson, so be aware of vehicular traffic. In Waterloo, connect directly with the South Riverside Trail for a ride or run along the Cedar River.

Parking and Trail Access

In Waterloo, parking for the Sergeant Road Trail can be found at a lot near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Westfield Avenue. At the trail's southern endpoint in Hudson, consider parking on city streets. As always, be mindful of any local parking restrictions.
