Description:
This rugged trail is Michigan's longest and reddest (iron in the soil) rail-trail. There are over 50 bridges on the trail, often with incredible vistas over rivers. Eagle and osprey sightings are possible, particularly between Iron River and Stager. The trail cuts through forests of aspen, birch, maple, beech and hemlock. The trail is used for snowmobiling during the winter months and can be negotiated with a mountain bike in summer months. It is not suitable for narrow bike tires.

Parking & Trail Access:
Although the trail starts outside of Wakefield at Korpela Road, less than 1/2 mile south of US2, getting there and finding parking can be cumbersome. Parking is available at the Park-and-Ride lot at US2 and Lake Shore Drive or at Eddy Park Campground on Sunday Lake. Day users can park along Korpela Road at the trailhead. Parking is available in Marenisco near the pavilion, in Watersmeet at the Watersmeet Visitor Center or the pavilion in town, in Iron River at a small parking lot along River Avenue to the right of the trail.
